Rhea Thierstein is an internationally renowned British Artist whose practice probes the beauty in imagination and memories, thereby creating new experiences for her diverse audience. She employs everyday materials to explore and play with the limitless boundaries of these in a handcrafted aesthetic, using narration to stimulate an emotional response to her work.
With delicacy, beauty and often a surprisingly dark undertone Rhea’s work has been seen on a multitude of platforms crossing over in to moving image, stills photography, costume and immersive theatre.
Growing up in the South of England, her connection with nature was nurtured from an early age, with entomology and magnifying tiny moments a recurring theme in her artwork.
Rhea’s bespoke pieces and scenes have been featured in Italian, American and British Vogue, POP, Wallpaper, Vanity Fair, Love, W and Another Magazine – frequently collaborating with fashion photographer Tim Walker.
Her whimsical work has brought to life the advertising campaign concepts of clients including Hermès, Wedgwood, Molton Brown, Mulberry, Selfridges and Bombay Sapphire.
Rhea contributed work to an all female group show for Saatchi and Saatchi (London) and created an art installation at the Natural History Museum (London) as part of their Venom exhibition in 2018. She was also chosen by Hermes to be featured in their Artist Windows in the UK, Ireland and Dubai on a number occasions and named as one of London’s 10 fastest-rising creatives by The Business of Fashion.
By virtue of her reputation, Rhea was subsequently offered the task of Creative Practitioner for Performance, School of Media and Communication at The London College of Fashion in London for a period of two and a half years. She is now a visiting lecturer there.
